Orange and Poppy Seeds Chiffon Cake...N my DIY Cake Stand

Orange and Poppy Seeds chiffon Cake
A beautiful cake stand is a much loved kitchen accessory by any bakers....I adore them a lot , and was waiting to grab one sometime..

Then, I happened to visit this lovely Blog that demonstrates a simple and cheap DIY cake stand...After going through it, I simply coulnt wait to try it out myself...And here is the one I made, just by sticking together an old wine glass under a glass platter and keeping for sometime for the bond to form....And it was ready in no time waiting for a click...

Now what next before I can take a snap of it.......Yes, I need a cake to put on the top....So thats how today's post had its origin....

Orange and Poppy seeds cake was a recipe that I used to try very often, but haven't posted yet...Last day, I got the idea of Chiffon cakes from here and so I modified my usual recipe accordingly to make it a Chiffon Cake...I would say, this is a must try recipe  ...It was so soft n fluffy inside that even my usual critic [ hubby ] didn't say any complaints while tasting...

Here is the recipe for a simple Tea time snack if you are keeping it plain...Or You can go ahead with some layering and icing and can make it a party treat too.....

  1. Self Raising Flour                   - 1 cup
  2. Eggs                                         - 2 Nos
  3. Orange Zest                           - 1 Tbsp  [ From 1 large orange ]
  4. Orange juice                           - 1/3 cup [ half of the juice from 1 large orange ]
  5. Poppy seeds                           - 2 Tbsps
  6. Olive Oil                                  - 3 Tbsps
  7. Caster Sugar                          - 3/4 cup
  8. Corn Flour                              - 1 Tbsp
  9. Icing Sugar                             - for Dusting [ optional ]
  1. Prepare an 8" cake tin and keep aside.
  2. Preheat the oven to 170°C.
  3. Sift the flour 2-3 times and keep aside.
  4. Separate the egg whites and take the whites and the yolks in two different bowls.
  5. Add oil, 1/4 cup of caster sugar, poppy seeds, orange zest and orange juice to the bowl containing the egg yolks. Beat them using a hand beater until all well combined. 
  6. Slowly fold in the flour to this mix and keep this batter aside.
  7. Beat the egg whites in the second bowl on a high speed till light peaks form. Add the remaining sugar along with corn flour and beat until all well combined and soft peaks appear. 
  8. Now slowly fold in the egg white mix to the yolk mix until all combined. Dont over mix.
  9. Pour in to the prepared cake tin and bake for 35-40 mins until done.
  10. Remove from oven and wait for a few minutes before removing from the pan. 
  11. Allow it to cool on a wire rack.

Soft and delicate Chiffon Cake is ready with the nice flavour of orange...Dust it with some icing sugar or any other decoration as you prefer and Serve..
    A sure recipe to impress your guests...Enjoy..

    10. Really commend the DIY attitude... it just makes the whole presentation so much more original as does your's. Maybe this will help start a new trend in the food blog world! Not to take any attention away from the cake though, I believe the texture of your cake came out really perfect. Love the visual effect the poppy creates in the slice.
