Hot N Sweet Chillie Chutney

Hot n Sweet Chillie chutney

This is an easy and tasty recipe which has passed on from my granny to mom and now to me. I love the way the taste of it varies when it goes their magic hands. I give a try keeping those tastes in memory and it has come out almost the same ( still I love the ones they prepare :) )
Here goes the recipe.

Sweet chillies - 3
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp
Oil - 1 Tbsp
Red chillie powder - 1 tsp
Jaggery - 1 tsp (powdered )
Asafoetida - a pinch
Fenugreek powder - 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Tamarind - 1 small lemon size

1) Put the tamarind in 1/4 cup of luke warm water and take out the juice from it. Keep it aside.

2) Cut the chillies into small pieces. Heat oil in a pan. When it is hot, add mustard seeds. Allow then to sputter. Now add the chillies. Add salt and saute it for about 5 - 10 mins. Keep stirring till the chillies become soft.

3) Once the chillies are soft , add the remaining ingredients and saute for a few minutes. Take care the powders dont get burnt.

4) Add the tamarind juice to it and allow to boil. Keep stirring in between till it becomes thicker. Switch off the heat and the Hot and Sweet chutney is ready to go to the table!!!
